A FLU epidemic in Hokkaido has hit Niseko with several locals known to be ‘off sick’ in week one of the season.

A survey by the National Institute of Infectious Diseases said the epidemic had reached warning levels across the island. And they warned it may start spreading across the nation this winter at the fastest pace in two decades.
